Library Director
Sitka Public Library, AK

$62,027.20 to $72,550.40 or DOE. City and Borough of Sitka is seeking a dynamic and experienced Library Director to supervise staff and operations of its Library. The position reports to the City Administrator and exercises supervision over support staff positions.

The successful candidate will have a passion, and strategic vision for library services. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: supervision of all library services and staff, collection development, programming, implementation of library technologies, budgeting, community relations, initiation and coordination of grants and assisting in long-range planning. It may include some evening and weekend hours.

Completion of a Master’s degree program at an American Library Association accredited college or university with major course work in Library Science; two years experience as a professional librarian in a municipal, academic, special, or school library. Supervisory Librarian
Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, TX

Job Description: Directs overall library operation providing mission, education, and quality of life support to base personnel, their families, and retirees. Responsible for the full scope of library functions to include library administration, personnel management, circulation services, reference/research services, technical services, and technological development and support. Responsible for the library facility; i.e., maintenance and improvements, purchasing of furniture and equipment, and allocation of space within the facility for various library functions. Monitors funding allocations. Responsible for work force management, recruitment, and staff training. Provides reference and research services using a broad range of current and retrospective resources, as well as a variety of resource formats. Selects all types of print and non-print media to meet the organizational, educational, and personal needs of library customers in a wide variety of subjects and reading levels. Performs selective removal and replacement of material from the collection. Responsible for ensuring the most effective acquisition method is used to acquire library materials. Resolves problems with procurement activity, finance and accounting office, or vendors beyond the expertise of the technicians. Performs original cataloging, subject analysis, and classification of a wide variety of specialized information in all formats using Dewey Decimal Classification and Library of Congress subject headings. Serves as coordinator of automation and systems, including local area network, wide-area network, and Internet, within the library. Manages the library marketing program and tracks marketing program costs and evaluates program effectiveness. Accurately develops, prepares, and justifies library budgets. Appropriately complies with agency and DoD/MWR Library Standards. Establishes and maintains, within established parameters, policies and procedures for all aspects of library functions. Works independently and accomplishes objectives with minimal supervision. Performs other related duties as assigned.
