From Beyond Our Borders: Providing Multilingual & Multicultural Health

(half-day workshop for library and literacy staff and volunteers)
This class is designed to assist librarians and others who work with diverse populations in locating health information. The resources presented are selected for their emphasis on providing culturally relevant information in the preferred language of the population. Background information on refugees and immigrants in the U.S. and their unique health issues will be presented. Participants will have the opportunity to become familiar with the features and scope of several Internet resources.
- Understand the definition of “refugee” and identify countries from which refugees are coming to the U.S.
- Understand the importance of culture in patient health
- Identify organizations that specifically work with refugee populations in the U.S.
- Identify important Internet sites that provide quality health information for refugees to the U.S.
There is no prerequisite for this class.
