2021 Summer Reading Resources

Resources for Oklahoma Libraries

The Summer Reading program at public libraries encourages children, youth and families to read and helps children maintain reading skills. To support Summer Reading, the Oklahoma Department of Libraries is a member of the Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP).

View 2021 Resources on the ODL Children/Young Adult Wiki.

The 2021 "Tails and Tales" artwork was created by Salina Yoon. The 2021 Summer Reading artwork is available for all Oklahoma public libraries to download (Copyright Embedded Artwork - Zip File) and find more at CSLPREADS.ORG (with login).

The Oklahoma Department of Libraries purchases Summer Reading manuals from CSLP for each public library in the state each year.

Online manuals now available. Everyone participating in the Oklahoma Summer Reading Program has access to the Online Manual. This manual contains all the programming resources, graphics, and book lists for the upcoming summer.

To access the manual, you will need to create a user account on the CSLP website. Once logged in, click on Manual Downloads located on the tool bar. From the drop down menu, select 2021 Online Manual. You will be prompted to enter your Oklahoma access code.

Email Adrienne Butler from an official work email to obtain the Oklahoma access code if you do not already have it.

Libraries are encouraged to download and edit the following PDF's to include your library's programming, logo and contact information. A library might also choose to edit out the reading log lines and input additional programming or add a reading recommendation list.

Need to know how to edit a PDF? A quick search online will give you free resources and instructions to meet your needs.

Performers for Your Library

From dragon puppet shows to four-legged animal friends, these 2021 Children's Performers will amaze and entertain your young patrons.

For the teen and young adult crowd, find sewing, writing, and art workshops. Get funky with a funk jam or a magic show with 2021 Teen/YA Performers.

Entertain your patrons of All Ages with Native American animal tales, a circus show, musicians and more.

2021 PSA

Learn how to add your library information to the end of the above PSA.

The "base" files are available for your libraries to add their own logo or text if this is something they are interested in doing. These files can be found on the "Additional Program Tools" tab, under the Manual Downloads drop down. Here is the direct link, although you do need to be logged in to access them.

Outdoor Movie Viewing

Swank Movie Licensing USA— There has been an outdoor exception added to the annual license to help with socially distanced program needs. This allows some films to be shown outdoors on library property as long as the guidelines are followed and the form is sent for approval.

Below are the guidelines and links for the outdoor exception:

  • An outdoor showing exception to the license is added so that libraries can engage patrons in a more socially distant environment! Outdoor Exception for Public Libraries: (This exception has been confirmed for all of 2021)
  • This list of pre-approved movies (Films for Outdoor Exception) are eligible for outdoor showings on library property, as long as the event is held to a maximum of 50 cars or 100 attendees.
  • This form (Public Library Outdoor Event Form) needs to be completed to receive permission for the outdoor showing exception and the guidelines will be included in that form.
  • Please email the completed form to libraries@swankmp.com, they will reply with approval. As long as the guidelines are followed, outdoor showings will be included as part of the license coverage.
  • If the showing does not meet those requirements, or is off library property, please contact Swank Motion Pictures at 800.876.5577 for the standard outdoor license pricing.
